EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BEING A COVE SAILING CLUB CADET

 Cadet Home Page

Cove has a thriving cadet membership.

The club has 4 Topaz dinghies for use as training boats, the latest of which was bought in 2007 with funding from the Bells Nautical Trust and is named Nauti Belle. Our thanks go out to the trust for their continued support.  We also have two Feva dinghies for more advanced cadets - which are fully equipped with spinnakers and racing sails.

To be a cadet you must be 8 years of age. Cadets meet once or twice a week throughout the sailing season, on Tuesdays and/or Fridays.

You will learn everything from the beginning, starting with safety on and near the water, how to rig a dinghy, how to sail, both in theory and practically, and how to derig and stow the boats. Older cadets can go and crew on the Loch Longs with their experienced owners.

(above left) we take safety seriously at Cove and (right) Zoe and friends competing                                              for the Blackie Cup.

Every year there is a Cadet Regatta where the competition for the prestigious Blackie Cup is fierce. We usually have one or two teams entering the locally raced Yvonne Armstrong trophy of which Cove have been the winners on more than one occasion.

The club always welcomes new cadets and parent helpers so come along to the clubhouse on a Friday at around 7.30 to see what we do.
